Clam-digging on Washington's Whidbey Island

At low tide, I'm off with Drew and his friend, Elliott to find clams

Elliott points to the siphon vent of a horse clam

It's always about whose is bigger

Worthy of only filling in the holes left by Drew, Elliott cowtows and returns the shovel to his master's hands

After digging up his limit of seven, Drew proceeds to clean the horse clams

Yuck

Small hermit crabs live symbiotically inside the horse clam's shell

Alex arrives with his friend Christina, from Dortmund, Germany

Nice hair, Alex!

Alex and Christina had driven for about the last 24 hours, finally arriving this morning on an early ferry

A Great Blue Heron skims the water beyond Drew

As the tide rolled in, Drew turned his search to crabs. This was the only one he found.

Take it from Careless Constipeda, "don't be a loser"
